What is ScienceDirect?
ScienceDirect is Elsevier’s platform of peer-reviewed scholarly literature. It includes thousands of books, journal articles, and other reference materials. ACM Professional and Student members have access to select content from ScienceDirect.

What content is included in ScienceDirect?
ScienceDirect includes more than 1,200 electronic books in computer science published by Morgan Kaufmann, Syngress, and other notable imprints.

How can I access ScienceDirect?
Log in with your ACM Web Account username and password from any ACM Learning Center page (click ScienceDirect from the top right navigation) or through myACM (left sidebar).

Are all ScienceDirect books and articles open to ACM members?
The entire Computer Science ebook library (both current editions and the "backlist") is open to ACM members (more than 1,200 titles in all). You also have access to the Encyclopedia of Information Systems, as well as some select open-source content. However, not all of ScienceDirect content is  available to ACM members at this time.

How do I know if the book or article I'd like to read is open?
You can use the "All access types filter" to select "Full-text access" to display only content that is available to you in full. You can also tell the access level by the color of the icon next to the publication. Green (ACM titles) and orange (open access) means that it's open and entitled to you.

Can I download books and articles from ScienceDirect for offline use?
Yes. Elsevier articles are DRM (digital rights management)-free, so you can download as many titles as you like. To download the desired book, click the title, check off the sections/chapters you would like to download and click Download PDFs. Or, if you'd like to download the full contents of the book, click Download PDFs without checking any individual sections.

How can I access reference materials that are not open in ScienceDirect?
You can purchase any books, journal articles, and other materials that are not included in ACM's entitlements directly through Elsevier.

How can I create or save alerts?
You can set up a search alert to notify you by email when a saved search retrieves new results. Note that search alerts are set to inactive if they are not used for an extended period of time.
To create a search alert:
1. Create and run a search
2. On the search results page select Save search alert
3. Complete the fields on the Save Search Alert page
4. Select Save to save the search alert and return to the search results page.

Is there a mobile app?
There is no app at this time but the site is fully optimized for mobile use. After logging into ScienceDirect simply search and view as you would on your desktop. To download to your phone and read offline follow the same download steps listed above.
